Identifying Your Customer Buckets (And Why One Ideal Client Isn’t Enough Anymore)

If your podcast content feels aligned but your listeners aren’t converting… or your offers make sense on paper but don’t seem to land the way you expected, this episode is going to click something into place.

In this episode of Podcast Growth Tools, I’m breaking down why relying on one ideal customer avatar is no longer enough—and how identifying customer buckets can completely change the way you create podcast content, market your offers, and guide listeners into becoming buyers.

Most podcasters and entrepreneurs are doing a lot of things right. They’re consistent. They’re creating valuable content. They’re showing up. And yet… something still feels off.

That disconnect usually isn’t about effort. It’s about messaging.

Your audience isn’t one person. They’re a group of people who want the same outcome—but they’re starting from very different places. And when you speak to everyone the same way, someone inevitably feels unseen.

This episode walks you through how to identify your customer buckets, why they matter, and how to use them to create clearer podcast topics, stronger calls-to-action, and offers that actually match where your listeners are right now..

What You’ll Learn in This Episode

  • Why does my podcast get great feedback but not drive sales?

  • Why does my messaging feel scattered or unclear?

  • Why do my listeners love my content but don’t take the next step?

  • How do I create podcast episodes that feel more intentional?

  • How do I stop talking to “everyone” and start speaking to the right people?

What Are Customer Buckets (And Why They Matter)?

Instead of one ideal client, think in terms of stages of a journey.

Everyone is heading toward the same destination—but they’re not all starting from the same place.

Some listeners are just getting started.
Some are stuck in the messy middle.
Some are ready for what’s next.

Same outcome. Different needs.

When you acknowledge this, everything becomes easier:

  • Your podcast topics become obvious.

  • Your CTAs feel natural instead of forced.

  • Your offers finally make sense to your audience.

Real-Life Examples of Customer Buckets

Example 1: A Writing Coach

  • Bucket 1: Someone with an idea but no words written yet.

  • Bucket 2: Someone halfway through a messy draft.

  • Bucket 3: Someone with a polished manuscript ready to publish.

Same end goal. Completely different support required.

Example 2: A Mindset or Transformation Coach

  • One person is focused on money mindset.

  • Another struggles with confidence or identity.

  • Another is navigating perfectionism.

They all want transformation—but they don’t need the same message today.

How Customer Buckets Transform Your Podcast Strategy

Once you identify your buckets:

  • Podcast episode ideas multiply quickly.

  • You stop guessing what to talk about.

  • Your content feels more aligned and intentional.

  • Your listeners feel deeply understood.

  • Your offers become the obvious next step.

You’re no longer just providing value—you’re guiding people forward.

Matching Customer Buckets to Your Offers

Here’s the good news: you usually don’t need new offers.

Most of the time, we simply:

  • Align existing offers to the right bucket.

  • Adjust how and when we present them.

  • Create a clearer progression through your ecosystem.

Early-stage listeners might need:

  • A quiz

  • A workshop

  • A starter resource

  • A low-ticket offer

Later-stage listeners might be ready for:

  • A group program

  • A mentorship

  • A mastermind

  • 1:1 coaching or consulting

Different stages require different support—and that’s where conversions start to happen.

How to Identify Your Own Customer Buckets

Here are a few questions I use with clients to map this out:

  • What makes this bucket different from the others?

  • What keeps them up at night?

  • What is their dream outcome?

  • What personality traits or values do they embody?

  • If they were a character in a story, who would they be?

From there, we align each bucket with the most appropriate offer and content path.

This clarity is what unlocks momentum.

Final Thoughts

If you’ve ever thought, “I know my audience… but something isn’t clicking,” this might be the missing piece.

Your listeners don’t need more content.
They need clearer guidance.

And when you speak to where they actually are, everything changes.
