Episode 63: Why Most Marketing Isn’t Working Anymore (and What to Focus on Instead) with Alice Zarka

Why Your Launches Aren’t Converting And How to Fix Them

Listen on Apple Podcast | Listen on Spotify | Watch on YouTube

If you’ve ever launched a course, mastermind, or coaching program and wondered why it didn’t convert the way you hoped, this episode is going to be incredibly eye-opening.

Because according to today’s guest, most launches don’t fail because of the strategy.

They fail because of the foundations behind the strategy.

In this episode of Podcast Growth Tools, I’m joined by marketing strategist Alice Zarka, who has worked behind the scenes on multiple seven- and eight-figure launches and now helps coaches and entrepreneurs scale their programs with intentional marketing systems.

We dive into what’s actually happening in the online education space right now, why so many launches fall flat, and how entrepreneurs can use assets like podcasts, partnerships, and messaging frameworks to build launch momentum that converts.

And one theme came up again and again throughout this conversation:

Transformation.

Because if your audience doesn’t clearly understand the transformation you provide, it becomes very difficult to sell anything, no matter how great your offer actually is.

What People Are Getting Wrong About Marketing Right Now

One of the first things Alice shares in this conversation is something many entrepreneurs don’t want to hear.

The online education space is more saturated than ever.

But that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

It simply means that marketing requires stronger differentiation and clearer messaging than it did even a few years ago.

Instead of focusing heavily on bonuses, extra features, or surface-level benefits, Alice encourages entrepreneurs to focus on:

  • The specific transformation their program delivers

  • The unique value they bring to their audience

  • The real result someone will walk away with

Because when multiple offers start sounding similar, people naturally hesitate.

And hesitation slows down sales.

Are Courses, Bootcamps, and Online Programs Still Working?

With so many people claiming online courses are “dead,” I had to ask Alice directly.

Her answer was simple:

No.

Courses, bootcamps, and digital programs are still working extremely well when they are structured intentionally.

However, audience expectations have shifted.

Today’s buyers are often looking for:

  • More access to the creator

  • More community within programs

  • Clear results and transformation

That means many successful programs today blend digital content with interaction, coaching, or live support rather than relying on passive course material alone.

The model itself isn’t disappearing.

It’s evolving.

Why Lead Generation Is More Important Than Ever

Another major challenge Alice sees when entrepreneurs try to scale their launches is not consistently growing their audience between launches.

Many business owners start with a strong audience and see success with their first launch.

But over time, audience growth slows.

And when the same people are being marketed to repeatedly, it becomes difficult to increase revenue.

This is why ongoing lead generation matters so much.

Some of the strategies Alice is seeing work well right now include:

  • Private podcast lead magnets

  • Traditional guides or downloadable resources

  • Quiz funnels

  • Paid ads driving direct message conversations

  • One-on-one conversations through social platforms

At the core of all of these strategies is a simple principle:

Marketing works best when it feels human.

The Power of Messaging Frameworks

Throughout our conversation, Alice referenced something she calls messaging frameworks.

This is essentially a structured way of identifying the core themes your marketing should communicate repeatedly.

Instead of reinventing the message every time you create a post, email, or sales page, you identify several key threads that consistently speak to:

  • Your audience’s pain points

  • Their deeper desires

  • The transformation your offer provides

Those messaging threads then become the foundation for everything you create.

From social posts to launch emails to podcast episodes.

When your messaging becomes consistent, your marketing becomes much easier and much more effective.

Launch Strategies That Are Working Right Now

When it comes to launches specifically, Alice is seeing a shift away from relying on a single large launch each year.

Instead, many entrepreneurs are combining multiple approaches such as:

  • Evergreen funnels

  • Smaller live launch events

  • Cohort-based programs

  • Community-driven experiences

Events like bootcamps or challenges still convert well, particularly when they create a sense of community before inviting people into the paid program.

This “try before you buy” experience helps potential customers feel more confident taking the next step.

Why Partnerships Are One of the Most Powerful Growth Strategies

Another strategy that continues to perform well is partnerships.

Collaborations can help entrepreneurs expand their reach far beyond their existing audience.

Some examples include:

  • Affiliate partnerships for launches

  • Speaking inside other people’s programs or communities

  • Podcast guest appearances

  • Joint ventures with aligned creators

The key is building real relationships within your industry.

Because those relationships can eventually turn into powerful opportunities for mutual growth.

How Podcasters Can Use Their Show to Support a Launch

Since this podcast is all about podcast growth and marketing strategy, I also asked Alice how podcasters can use their show as part of their launch ecosystem.

Her favorite strategies include:

Dynamic podcast ads
These allow you to insert promotional ads for your program across your entire podcast catalog during a launch window.

Launch-aligned episode topics
Creating podcast episodes that naturally guide listeners toward the themes of your launch.

Podcast swaps
Collaborating with other podcasters and appearing on each other’s shows to expand reach.

Your podcast isn’t just content.

It can be one of the most powerful marketing assets in your entire business.

Staying True to Your Vision While Scaling

One of my favorite parts of this conversation was when we shifted into a deeper discussion about success and vision.

Because while growth and scaling are exciting, it’s easy to get pulled toward someone else’s version of success.

Alice shared that entrepreneurs need to continually reconnect with the reason they started their business in the first place.

For many people, that includes:

  • Helping others through their expertise

  • Creating meaningful transformation

  • Designing a life that aligns with their values

And sometimes that means redefining success during different seasons of business.

Because entrepreneurship is a long game.
